Kimbers Farm Livery Centre

It is now sadly time to officially share that the business Kimbers Farm Livery Centre is closed. Our Horsebox Hire business will continue from our new location.

The yard

This amazing yard was started and managed by Joe Davy over 33 years ago. A very special husband, dad and mentor. Who else do you know that has successfully run a livery yard business for that long? He carried out the best care (from years of experience working in different countries for top show jumpers and producers) and created the most amazing atmosphere for horse and rider and that is testament to the longevity of the business. Lots of people have him to be thankful for - either starting their riding careers, improving their knowledge or just becoming a better rider. Some may think it was their own doing, others know it was Joe and without him they wouldn’t be the rider they are today. I know I’d never have had the guts to event without Joe’s belief and support.

To the clients

Where do I start, so many different groups over the years. Each decade has brought with it amazing times. From away shows at Southsea in the big blue, then green lorry, to local gigs such as Smiths lawn, Patchetts, Vicarage farm and many more. From the raucous parties to funny stories, the deep conversations, the soul searching and the sharing of each other’s life challenging situations over tea in the tackroom. The yard has been people’s solice and comfort at many a dark time in their lives. It’s also been the place of joy and laughter and character-building stuff. There’s been a few weirdos, and know it alls along the way (google you have a lot to answer for) but for the most part the best people we could wish for. Again, that was all down to Joe - he just had a way that everyone loved and it just attracted and (thankfully) kept only the best people. We all know you too love Kimbers because many of your lifelong friends were made at the yard.

The staff

And now to staff - There have been some disappointments along the way but for the most part, again we’ve had the very best people - thank you for all you’ve done. You know who you are, and what an important role you have played at the yard, and in the lives of horses and clients and of course in both Joe’s and my life.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Joe

Joe’s plan was to semi-retire in June 2025 so while this is written with a heavy heart, there is some relief from the pain of losing him to know that Tyler and I are doing what he intended. He wanted his future to be in Newbury with his family, our horses and his lorries.

I’m hopeful that another kind, knowledgeable person will take on the yard and new memories can begin for others.  But, I can safely say that whatever happens… there was only ever one Kimbers Farm Livery centre and there will only ever be one Joe Davy.

Keep your special memories of Joe and Kimbers alive by continuing to share them with others. Joe’s, knowledge, kind, caring and funny ways should always be remembered.

We salute you Joe Davy - your legacy lives on.
